Perdue has a proven record of working together with environmental groups, regulatory agencies and the farm community to address the environmental challenges associated with animal agriculture. While the majority of environmental groups recognize that properly managed, economically viable family farms preserve open space and protect watersheds from the impact of development, there are groups who oppose the modern agricultural methods employed by the vast majority of American farm families.

Unfortunately, these fringe groups appear more interested in confrontation than cooperation, and have stepped up their attacks on the farm community. Their actions have put the family farm in jeopardy as never before. Farmers cannot afford to defend themselves against these activists and family farms face a genuine threat to their existence.

As a company, Perdue is committed to maintaining clean waters and we support compliance with and enforcement of existing environmental regulations. That is why we partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency to help the farm partners who raise our chickens comply with environmental regulations and environmental best management practices through the Perdue Clean Waters Environmental Initiative.

We applaud the steps taken by the Governor of Maryland to direct state agencies to help farmers comply with environmental laws and urge other states to follow that lead. We also urge state and local governments to take steps to protect the family farm for generations to come.
